Bath

A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987, Bath is an elegant city of just over 100,000 people, renowned as a wellbeing destination and for its traditional honey-coloured Georgian architecture, epitomised by its Royal Crescent and Circus. But alongside the history of Jane Austen’s former home and the traditional places to eat and drink (including afternoon tea in the Pump Rooms or an original Bath Bun at Sally Lunn’s), the city is home to cool contemporary culture, where its ancient Roman Baths co-exist with the thoroughly modern Thermae Bath Spa. The large number of tourists and student population generates a friendly and bustling feel to the city, which is also home to a fast-moving creative and technology cluster.

Brussels

As a quirky capital in the heart of Europe, Brussels is sure to surprise you. Perhaps best known as a centre of EU affairs, Brussels hosts the EU Institutions, not to mention a plethora of think-tanks, consultancies, national and regional representations, and European corporate headquarters. It is also famed for its beer, chocolate and ‘frites’ (chips), and is home to a number of famous current/former residents, including the ‘Manneken Pis’ fountain (the little man has around 1000 costumes in the city museum!), surrealist artist René Magritte and actress Audrey Hepburn. Made up of 19 municipalities, this patchwork city of 2 million boasts 166 different nationalities and 71% inhabitants are of foreign origin.
